Privacy policy

Last updated: November 5, 2026

This Privacy Policy describes how the PDF Reader Android app ("the App," package com.pdfreader.app) handles your information. The App is built to be local-first: opening, editing, annotating, and signing PDF files happens entirely on your device and does not require an account or an internet connection.

Data the App never collects

The App does not read, scan, or transmit the contents of your PDF files to us or to any third party unless you explicitly choose to use the optional cloud sync feature described below. The App does not use analytics SDKs beyond what Google's own Firebase/AdMob services report (see below). We do not sell your data.

Optional: Google Sign-In and cloud sync

The App includes an optional "Sign in with Google" feature. If you choose to sign in:

WhatWhy
Your Google account's name, email address, and profile photoTo identify your account within the App, via Firebase Authentication
Document metadata (file name, sync status, timestamps) for documents you choose to syncStored in Cloud Firestore, scoped so only your account can read or write it
The PDF file itself, for documents you choose to sync (when this feature is enabled)Stored in Cloud Storage, scoped so only your account can read or write it

Signing in is never required to use the App. Cloud-synced data is stored using Google Firebase (Firestore/Storage), protected by access rules that restrict each account to its own data only. You can delete your synced data and account at any time from within the App.

Advertising

The App shows a banner advertisement at the bottom of the reading screen, served by Google AdMob. Before any ad is requested, the App uses Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP) to ask for your consent where required (for example, under GDPR/UK rules), and respects your choice. AdMob may collect an advertising identifier and other device/usage information to select and measure ads; see Google's advertising policy for details of what Google collects and how it's used. No PDF content or document data is ever shared with the advertising SDK.

Device permissions

The App requests access to files/documents you explicitly open via the Android system file picker, and internet access (needed for sign-in, cloud sync, and ads). The App does not request broad storage access, camera, microphone, contacts, or location.

Local-only data

Saved signatures, signing identities, and recent-document history are stored only on your device (in app-private storage) and are not backed up or synced anywhere unless you explicitly enable cloud sync for a specific document.

Data deletion

You can delete a signing identity or saved signature at any time from within the App. If you have signed in and synced documents to the cloud, deleting your account from within the App removes your synced documents, metadata, and account record from our servers.

Children's privacy

The App is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the App's features change. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above.
